10/12 at Colorado Rockies: 7.1 IP, 5 hits allowed, 1 earned run allowed, 5 K’s-3 BB’s
10/18 vs. the Dodgers: 8 IP, 3 hits allowed, 0 earned runs allowed, 10 K’s-0 BB’s
Those were Cliff Lee’s OUT OF THIS WORLD numbers against the Rockies and Dodgers in the NLDS and NLCS, respectively.
Well, the Dodgers and Rockies, who each got shut down by Cliff Lee are not as alone for at least one day. These teams can take some degree of comfort in the fact that the mighty Yankee offense also got shut down by Cliff Lee. Against the Yanks, in Game 1 of the World Series, on the road, Lee threw:
A Complete Game (9 IP), only allowing 6 hits and 1 unearned runs. He gave up no earned runs and struck out 10 batters and walked none for the second consecutive start.
This postseason, Cliff Lee’s ERA is 0.54 and his WHIP is not much higher than that.
To conclude, the Yankees still have a decent chance of winning the World Series, and the Rockies and Dodgers do not. Cliff Lee shutting down the Yanks doesn’t take away much of the pain at all, but for some, it may alleviate the pain for a day or so. No one can hit Lee this postseason. The Dodgers were not unique in this respect.
